The edges do not need to be found

For many life reasons this blog has been paused for quite a while.

Maybe it is time to start again. Maybe not. In the meantime, this.

I have recently been so enriched by intuitive writing sessions guided and enabled by the gifted poet Liezel Graham. It is unlocking the writer in me that has been silent for a long time. She presents us with a visual image to kickstart a meditative response. We write fast, and intuitively without judgment, or censoring our words.

This is the one from this mornings early session.

An image from the ceramic artist Glen Martin Taylor whose emotionally raw pieces are often deliberately shocking/thought provoking. What follows are my unedited responses.

The answers are in the broken edges…

Unfinished painting
beauty fractured, chipped
These chips, these breaks
have happened slow..
over time.
A piece here, an edge there
Beauty nibbled away, worn down

Will it be discarded?
Where are the missing pieces?
Lost in time
Small breaks that didn’t seem too big

in the moment,
but eroded the whole

Art interrupted.
Unfinished, and yet still beautiful.

Rich landscape, seascape
half formed.
Earth colours, sky and sea
distant mountains longed for.

The answers..
What are the questions?
The whys? The wherefores?
The whens and wheres ?
The who?

Reflecting on my response and picking up on the lines

Art interrupted.
Unfinished, and yet still beautiful

Creativity stunted or paused?

What nibbles at my flow?

What breaks the circle
with pressure?

I chose not to look at the sharp edges-

Seeing only the painting
The colours, the forms
The potential, imagination cut off.

Beauty in the brokenness
The incomplete

What cannot be restored
is yet worthy of witness

The edges do not need to be found

It does not need to be held
It can simply be

    • i loved what you have written how you come to …..it can simply be…..

I feel like I am in a battle at my workplace at present with some for whom “simply being” and simply “being with” are not enough…..

I hadn’t seen it like that before…what you’ve written gives me insight, thank you. X
